SEARCH OPERATORS:  Want to improve your online search results to be more accurate?

*Add these punctuation marks & letters to narrow your search!

Search for keywords in page titles = intitle:     [Ex:  intitle:theory of matter]

  • To require ALL of them, use allintitle:   [Ex: allintitle:matter theory mass]

Search for exact matches = quotation marks    [Ex: “theory of matter”]

Forget a Word? Use an asterisk to replace it!  [Ex: *theory]

Narrow your search to a specific location =   loc: [theory of matter loc:Stockholm]

 Include additional words =    [theory of matter +energy]

Remove possible connections =   [theory of matter -string]

Add a file extension to find a specific kind! No space after last word

                 (.pdf .jpeg .gif .doc .pptx)   [Ex:  theory of matter.pdf]

Find SIMILAR results by using a Tilde ~BEFORE it  [Ex: ~Theory of matter]

Locate a Range of Numbers using two dots! = ..  [Ex. 2010..2020]

BOOLEAN SEARCH OPERATORS

 

*Must be typed IN ALL CAPS in the search request- no brackets!

AND – only yields results in which ALL terms are present  [theory AND matter]

OR – yields results that include EITHER term [theory OR matter]

NOT – yields results closest in context of the meaning [theory of matter NOT string]
